Dr. Keisha Scarlett’s opening remarks set the tone for the day at the Summer Leadership Institute. In keeping with the theme of “passion,” she shared life experiences that led to her passion for STEM, educational equity, mentorship, and sponsorship. “Mentorship is about ‘I’ll show you the tricks of the trade.’ Sponsorship is, ‘I will open doors for you and introduce you to those who can help you.’”

“Remembering a student, she was unable to rescue, she said, “That baby deserved more than those eyes that gazed on him…our students come to us from all different circumstances. They are here because they want to be more than what you see. We are here for our students.”
