Representing the diversity of our world, recognizing the demands of society and higher education, and fostering positive learning environments to prepare students for college and careers, our schools empower students to succeed on any path they choose.

Neighboring the University of Illinois and Parkland College, Champaign Schools are able to build strong community partnerships that provide unique, world-class educational opportunities to our students. Read on to learn more about Champaign Schools, and view the District Report Card.

Champaign residents enjoy all of the entertainment, diversity of culture, and intellectual pursuits of a large city while appreciating the leisurely pace of a smaller town. The University of Illinois provides the excitement of Big Ten sporting events and world-class entertainment at the State Farm Center and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Champaign is characterized by a thriving downtown and campustown, award-winning neighborhood parks, live music venues, and summer festivals for youth and adults alike. We also share many museums, galleries, theaters, and library services with the adjacent city of Urbana.

Greetings Champaign Unit 4 Families and Patrons,

It was an honor to be named Superintendent of Champaign Unit 4 Schools earlier this year. Since that time, I have enjoyed meeting with many of you in preparation to transition into this role. Everyone has been so welcoming since my husband and I moved here. We look forward to being a part of the Champaign area community.

My name plate is now hung and the office door is wide open! It is my goal to serve our children with humility and a fierceness to ensure that Unit 4 shines as a District that is known for excellence. I will always lead from the place of what’s best for our children.

The 2020-21 school year is a reflection of the resilience that students, families and staff showed when they faced a school year filled with pandemic-related obstacles. Learning still happened. Meals were distributed. Awards were won. Sports were played. Community partners assisted. Unit 4 Schools persevered!

I am incredibly excited about the future of Unit 4 Schools. I know I can count on you on this journey as we ensure high quality, equitable educational experiences for all of our students.

Sincerely,
Dr. Shelia Boozer

District Goals

History

Champaign is a blossoming city, and our growth can be seen in many areas throughout schools and the broader community. Our current enrollment has grown to more than 10,000 students who represent 77 countries and speak more than 60 languages. Our building facilities have also evolved as we have added two elementary schools over the last two decades. We have also rebuilt two elementary schools and a high school. Our District did not stop there: We recently renovated both high schools and one middle school, and one prep academy will be constructed, to ensure every student in Unit 4 has an excellent learning environment. As a result of a successful referendum in excess of $200 million, the Unit 4 school community continues to positively transform the spaces where our students learn and grow. However, that has not always been the case. We come from modest means.

While facilities have been built, upgraded and overhauled, and bought and sold, the curriculum has also been adjusted to reflect the needs of society. It’s dramatic how far we’ve come, how many challenges we’ve met, and how we’ll continue to prepare ourselves for challenges in educating our youth.
