National Home Visiting Week celebrates and recognizes home visitors/parent educators and the positive impact they make on maternal and child health outcomes. Home visiting connects pregnant and parenting families with young children to trained family support professionals who provide customized coaching and guidance through pregnancy and the early stages of a child’s development. Home visiting programs are offered in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In 2023, more than 280,000 families engaged in home visiting services in the U.S. Organizations throughout the country are celebrating National Home Visiting.
Ms. Norma states, “My experience as a Parent Educator means a lot to me. Having the opportunity to empower parents by helping them understand child development, build stronger parent-child relationships, and foster a nurturing home environment is extremely rewarding.” Ms. Paige concurs, “Being a home visitor is one of the most inspiring roles that I’ve ever held. We step into the homes of our families during some of the most critical times in their child’s life, from pregnancy to the first steps, first words and so on. This job is not just about delivery of service; it’s also about building relationships within the home and the community. I’ve learned through this work that it is about the small wins, like helping parents achieve a goal or celebrating a baby’s first laugh. This work is about prevention and not just intervention. Laying the foundation for learning is brought to families from the start of our program. To walk alongside my family in the most important time of their child’s life is something that makes this job so important to me.”
Ms. Nicole states, “I feel incredibly grateful to work as a Parent Educator, where I have the unique privilege of partnering with parents and caregivers through home visits focused on child development. This role has allowed me to build meaningful relationships with families and witness the amazing journey of children growing and thriving—both on their own and alongside the loving support of their caregivers.” Ms. Jasmin adds, “My experience as a parent educator has been incredibly rewarding. I find so much joy in having meaningful conversations with families and witnessing their growth as they discover their own strengths. While parenting doesn’t come with a manual, this role allows me to support.”
